Known colloquially as Catedral Colón and Catedral de San Cristóbal this magnificent structure has an official name -- Catedral de la Virgen Maria de la Concepcion Inmaculada. Started by the Jesuits in 1748 and completed in 1777, the cathedral's baroque facade dominates the popular Plaza de la Catedral in Havana Vieja. Inside, beyond the huge wooden doors, columns divide the church into three naves. The main altar is of Carrara marble inlaid with gold, silver, onyx and carved wood.

For those who are interested, photos such as this are one reason that I never travel without my Fisheye lens in my bag. The tremendous viewing angle (albeit with some distortion) is the only way to capture the imensity of these interiors.
